Privacy Policy
How Boringua handles your information.
Effective date: 11 July 2026 ยท Last updated: 11 July 2026
Boring Project Limited, a company registered in New Zealand (“we”, “our”, or “us”), builds the Boringua language-learning app (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Boringua you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information. If you sign in, we receive a user identifier and your email address from Apple (Sign in with Apple, which may be a private-relay address) or Google (Google Sign-In), plus a display name if you provide one.
- Your learning data. Words you save, word lists you build, your review history, and your study streaks. When you are signed in, this data is synced to your account so it is available across your devices.
- Support messages. If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message.
Information collected automatically
- Device and app information. Device model, operating system version, and app version — used for compatibility and debugging.
- Diagnostics. If the App encounters an error or crash, we collect diagnostic data (such as error logs and device state) through Sentry to help us fix problems.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, health data, or advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
2. How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- provide Boringua and sync your learning data across your devices;
- operate your account and your Boringua Pro subscription;
- diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and keep the service secure; and
- respond to your support requests and important service notices.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
3. How we share information
We share information only with the service providers that help us run Boringua, and only as needed to provide the App:
| Service | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, App Store payments | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Google Sign-In, Google Play payments | policies.google.com/privacy | |
| RevenueCat | Managing subscription entitlements | revenuecat.com/privacy |
| Sentry | Crash and error diagnostics | sentry.io/privacy |
| Amazon Web Services | Cloud hosting and data storage for our backend | aws.amazon.com/privacy |
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms of Use, to protect the rights or safety of our users or the public, or as part of a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), in which case we will let you know.
4. Where your data is stored
Your account and learning data are stored on Amazon Web Services infrastructure. Because Boringua is offered internationally, your information may be processed in countries other than the one where you live, including the United States. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the standard contractual clauses offered by our providers.
5. Data retention
- Account and learning data. Kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete the associated learning data from our systems within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal obligations.
- Diagnostics. Retained for up to 12 months, then deleted.
- Guest data. Stored only on your device (see Section 8); we do not receive it unless you sign in.
6. Security
We protect your information with technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS), access controls limiting who can access data, and regular review of our practices. No system is perfectly secure, but we take commercially reasonable steps to safeguard your data.
7. Your rights and choices
You can:
- Access and correct your data — your learning data is visible in the App, and your display name is editable there.
- Delete your account and synced data from within the App at any time, or by emailing us.
- Export your data — contact us to request a copy.
To make a request, email support@boringprojects.com. We aim to respond within 30 days.
European Economic Area & United Kingdom (GDPR)
If you are in the EEA or the UK, our lawful bases for processing are: performance of our contract with you (providing the App and your account), our legitimate interests (keeping the service secure and improving it), and your consent where required. You also have the right to object to or restrict processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. The data controller is Boring Project Limited, contactable at support@boringprojects.com.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law. California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Contact us at the address above to make a request.
8. Guest mode
You can use Boringua without an account. In guest mode, the words you save and lists you build are stored only on your device and are not sent to us. If you later sign in, that local data can be uploaded to your account so it syncs across devices, as described in the App.
9. Children
Boringua is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. The current version is always published at this page.
